The Communication Center exists to provide skilled, relevant, and creative communication of biblical truth through speaking, writing, training, and consulting. Tim Downs founded the Communication Center in 1982 and since then has spoken almost three thousand times to audiences in church, retreat, conference, and stadium settings ranging in size from a few to more than 20,000. Tim and Joy have also spoken at more than 250 of Family Life’s Weekend to Remember Getaways since 1985, and they have co-authored two books on conflict resolution in marriage: Fight Fair and One of Us Must be Crazy and I’m Pretty Sure it’s You.

Tim is a nationally known writer, speaker, and cartoonist. His first book, Finding Common Ground, was awarded the Gold Medallion Award and is still used as a textbook in seminary evangelism courses. In 2003 Tim began to write mystery/suspense novels, beginning with Shoofly Pie, followed by Chop Shop (2004), PlagueMaker (2006), Head Game (January 2007), First the Dead (January 2008), Less than Dead (August 2008), Ends of the Earth (August 2009), Wonders Never Cease (May 2010), and Nick of Time (May 2011). PlagueMaker was awarded the Christy Award for best CBA mystery/suspense novel of 2006.

Tim’s most recent work is Where the Wind Leads (April 2014), the remarkable story of a Chinese family living in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam who fled communist oppression at the end of the Vietnam War to find a new life in America.

The Communication Center has also served to train other Christians to be more creative, confident, and articulate communicators. For seventeen years the Center hosted an annual six-week long training conference that was attended by hundreds of students, many of whom are now influential pastors, leaders, and business owners. Tim continues to do occasional communication workshops.

Donations to the Communication Center allow Tim and Joy Downs to continue their influential ministry of speaking, writing, training, and consulting. Donors will receive their monthly newsletter and will be among the first to receive news of any forthcoming book or project.
