How Trutina is Helping Today:  By providing financial assistance to student families for holiday meals, holiday gifts and basic necessities like milk and bread.

Beginning this spring we will be Providing Longer Term Help through a series of workshops for all Odle Middle School families. Teaching students and their parents about financial literacy, life and work skills to help them be more successful in our community.

A goal to enroll each “at risk”* young person at Odle and Highland Middle School in the Economis skills program. Economis, designed by YFC, provides daily real world experience in using a credit/debit card, earning, spending, online banking, taxes and wages. This experience, however, occurs in a virtual world so that mistakes and problems can become instructive without the consequences of the real world.

A study conducted by Search Institute identified 40 building block behaviors that shape the mental, emotional, spiritual and healthy development of a young person.  When a child engages in at least 31 of the building block behaviors they succeed at a much higher rate and avoid “at risk”* behaviors; young people that fall below are likely to get involved in at risk behaviors. Only 8% of these young people are on track towards positive outcomes.  Providing the tools and help in building good behaviors can change dozens of kid’s lives for the better.
