About the Project Manager
Mike Meyers serves as the current Commissioner of the Military Basketball Association (MBA), a role in which he acts as the league’s primary spokesperson and strategic leader since its founding in summer 2017. As CEO and Founder, Mike has been instrumental in establishing the MBA as a globally recognized volunteer organization that promotes military athletes and fosters collaboration among military communities, sponsors, and stakeholders. Through his leadership, the MBA serves as a vital platform for advancing military wellness initiatives, community engagement, and advocacy. Mike is an Army combat veteran who served 23 years as an enlisted Soldier with the MOS of 75B10 (Human Resources Specialist) and then commissioned in 2005 from ROTC as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. In 2006, Mike deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during the Surge.
With more than 20 years of volunteer coaching experience, Mike has been a pioneer in using military basketball as a tool to prevent harmful behaviors and promote resilience. The MBA actively facilitates dialogue between military installations, sponsors, and community partners, ensuring alignment of shared goals and resources. It also plays a crucial role in setting the agenda for military athlete development and mental health awareness, with a focus on issues like suicide prevention and Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI).
The organization’s governance includes a dedicated leadership team—comprising the Deputy Commissioner, Conference Commissioner, and Basketball Council—overseeing four major military basketball conferences, encompassing 44 to 50 volunteer varsity programs nationwide. The MBA also functions as a mediator and conflict resolver within the military sports community, fostering unity and collaboration across diverse organizations.
Annually, the MBA hosts its Playoffs and Finals, where teams compete to identify the top military installation in Men’s and Women’s Military Basketball. These events offer opportunities for community interaction, veteran recognition, and stakeholder engagement, effectively raising awareness and driving advocacy for military personnel and their families. Through its strategic leadership, the MBA continues to build bridges among military communities, sponsors, and advocates, shaping the future of military basketball as a force for positive social impact and community resilience.
