Welcome to Swim For Recovery in September!

Did you know that September is National Recovery Month?

This is why I have decided to swim 1 mile per day in September to not only increase awareness about breaking the cycle of addiction in the family system, but to raise funds to support Lifted From The Rut programs and help those who cannot afford the help! (make sure to read part of my story at the bottom of this page)

I am inviting YOU to join me in my Swim For Recovery in September where I will be committing to the below actions daily in September:

1) Swim 1 mile per day in September. Here is how that breaks down:
- 1 Mile = 66 laps
- 30 miles = 1,980 laps

2) Post a 10 minute daily video sharing one of the below:
- A recovery story
- A recovery strategy
- A recovery statistic

Here is HOW you can participate:

1) Make a tax-deductible donation for each lap I swim in the month of September (I commit to 1,980 laps).
Some examples.....
- $.10 / lap = $198 donation
- $.25 / lap = $495 donation
- $.50 / lap = $990 donation
- $1.0 / lap = $1,980 donation
Your donation amount can be put in the "other amount" category once you click the "donate to this project button" on this page or click here.

2) See if your company will match your tax-deductible donation = DOUBLE your donation!

All tax-deductible donations will be used to further the mission of Lifted From The Rut: To Restore Hope, Identity & Purpose to the Addicted. Lifted From The Rut helps families through scholarships for treatment needs (sober living, counseling, therapy), addiction awareness events (webinars, online and local events), interventions, coaching, podcasting, and advocacy efforts.

If you LOVE to swim and want to join me in this effort to help raise awareness and funds, then please shoot me an email at rob@liftedfromtherut.com

Why did I choose swimming?

Throughout my childhood and into highschool, swimming was my sport. I loved the camaraderie of swimming. I loved the individual and team aspect of swimming. Heck...I just loved the water, so swimming was a perfect fit for me.

I remember the thrill of qualifying as an alternate (Mark Dalton beat me out by milliseconds) on the medley relay team for breaststroke for STATE my junior year. WOW!!  What an amazing experience.

Unfortunately my love for alcohol rose above my love for swimming. I came to a crossroad during my senior year of highschool. Off campus lunches involved drinking alcohol, returning to school for a class or two, then off to the pool for swim practice. A decision had to be made...stop drinking OR stop swimming.

Guess what I chose? Stop swimming, of course. You see...almost every time in my life, when alcohol and potential were facing off, alcohol became the victor.

This is why I am SWIMMING for RECOVERY, because ever since I survived a suicide attempt on June 8, 2001 and was Divinely freed from my substance addictions, swimming has been a staple in my recovery. I find peace in the water. I pray in the water. I jam out to music with underwater headphones. I am refreshed in the water. I also love dolphins!
